Showdown In Olde Town and The Celtic Tavern are proud to present the our first Open Mic Competition of 2004. We've got a slightly new format that promises to produce a pretty cool finale.  Now is your chance to show us everything you've got and see how you stack up against a host of talented local musicians.  It all gets started on February 19th and concludes with the ultimate showdown on April 15th.  Whether you play or not, mark your calendars and get on over to Olde Town for some good times and good tunes.

Thursdays at 8:00pm, February 19th-April 15th

  • Each week our panel of judges will select a 1st place winner from our slate of performers.  Judges will determine the winners by critiquing each performer's musical ability, presentation and originality.  Each category will be scored 1-10 using whole numbers only.  The performer with the highest total score will be deemed the winner.

  • In the event of a tie, Slim gets the "honor" of naming a winner.

  • The 1st place winner from each of the first eight weeks of competition will qualify for the Grand Showdown in April.

  • Each performer may only win once during the competition.

  • The Finals will be conducted in a tournament format with three rounds of competition.

  • In the first round, performers will be randomly paired and compete head-to-head.  Each performer will play two songs and the judges will choose who advances to the next round.

  • The final two rounds will pair winners from the previous rounds.  Performers will also play a two songs in these two rounds.

  • The winner of the final round will be crowned the Showdown in Olde Town Champion and receive a large chunk of the prize fund.  We are still in the process of determining the final cash payouts.

We are need of a few observant and conscientious individuals to act as judges during the competition.  If you (or anyone you know) are interested in helping us choose the Showdown winner, please contact Slim via e-mail or see Slim at the next Open Mic Night.  We would like to schedule three judges for each week of the competition.
